Research Literature
Introduction
This evolving literature review and annotated bibliography supports my practice-led research into contemporary commercial songwriting, creativity, songwriter development and music education. It brings together academic scholarship from multiple disciplines and serves as a structured research resource that informs both my creative practice and ongoing research.
Each source is reviewed using a structured literature matrix that records research questions, theoretical concepts, methodological strengths and limitations, identified research gaps, and its relevance to my research. This approach supports critical synthesis of the literature and informs the development of my research projects.
Literature Review Database

The literature review is maintained as a structured research database rather than a traditional document. Each publication is reviewed, categorised and annotated to support critical engagement with the literature and to identify emerging themes, methodologies and research gaps relevant to commercial songwriting and songwriting education.
The database is organised into thematic categories to support ongoing research and efficient cross-referencing across disciplines. Current sections include:
-
Master Literature Index
